Construction materials are very good sources
of food material for construction
mold growth. Ceiling tiles, insulation, carpets
and paper backing of drywalls are ideal spots
for construction mold growth. Mold
is a fungus
that occurs naturally. Mold
needs only two requirements
to thrive, which are food and sufficient moisture.

Even a single mishap, such as a broken pipe,
can provide enough moisture. It could also result
from faulty construction of structures and environment
conditions that allow the water to infiltrate.
Additionally, moisture could be the result of
condensation or humidity.
There are several reasons for the recent surge
in the incidence of construction
mold. Of late, the demand in the construction
industry is airtight buildings. While this helps
in energy conservation, the lack of sufficient
ventilation prevents proper drying of wet substances.
In addition, complex designs are the norm of the
day. Complicated roof and wall angles, window
walls and curved walls increase the chances of
water infiltration. In this age, everything needs
a quick turnaround period. As a result, to save
time, contractors do not allow the construction
materials to dry properly.
Because of these reasons, construction mold
grows easily and fast. The only way to prevent
it is to use inorganic construction materials
and better construction practices.
